In agricultural product livestreams featuring lychees, longans, mangoes, and citrus fruits, lighting must do more than illuminate the host. It should accurately present peel color, surface texture, the appearance of the fruit flesh, and freshness.
This case study examines a lychee livestream promotion held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, and explains how three NiceFoto DF80-1000A Umbrella Lights, an integrated LED umbrella soft-light solution, provided host key lighting, product fill lighting, background illumination, and close-up lighting for the fruit.
On July 12, the lychee livestream promotion was distributed through Douyin, TikTok, and Facebook to reach online consumers in different regions.
The livestream included displays of whole lychee clusters, close-ups of the peel texture, peeled fruit flesh, product packaging, weighing, and on-site tasting, helping viewers assess the lychees’ color, ripeness, and freshness through the screen.

The campaign generated 8,535 orders, sold more than 12 metric tons of lychees, and recorded total sales of RMB 856,000. These results were shaped by multiple factors, including product quality, the hosts’ presentation, platform traffic, campaign operations, and livestream image quality.
This case study focuses on how professional lighting improved color reproduction, soft-light coverage, and visual consistency in agricultural product livestreaming.
What Lighting Challenges Must an Outdoor Lychee Livestream Solve?
To present the agricultural products as naturally and accurately as possible, the fruit livestream promotion was held at an outdoor booth and distributed through Douyin, TikTok, and Facebook.
Compared with a fixed indoor studio, an outdoor livestream is more affected by the direction of sunlight, weather, and changes in ambient brightness.
The hosts also needed to repeatedly pick up the lychees, rotate the fruit, peel it, and demonstrate packaging, weighing, and tasting.
The lighting therefore had to illuminate the people while keeping the lychees in the hosts’ hands, the fruit baskets on the table, and the product packaging at relatively consistent brightness levels.
One outdoor livestream booth used three NiceFoto DF80-1000A Umbrella Lights: one as the key light for the host and products, one as side fill, and one for background and auxiliary lighting.
The key light was positioned about 1.8 meters from the host and aimed at the livestream area from a front-side angle of approximately 45 degrees. Its 80 cm umbrella body created broad soft-light coverage that illuminated both the host’s upper body and the product display table.

Commenting on his experience during the livestream, Janson Wong, a 35-year-old male livestreamer, said: “The lighting clearly revealed the texture of the lychee peel. As we picked up and set down the fruit, the brightness of the fruit baskets, packaging, and faces remained well balanced. This lighting setup did more than brighten the scene; it kept the people and products in a natural, stable relationship of light.”
The large soft light source prevented the hands, fruit, and face from suddenly becoming darker when the host lifted a lychee toward the camera and moved beyond a narrow light zone.
When the fruit was returned to the basket, the brightness transition among the people, products, and packaging also remained natural.
How Do Three NiceFoto DF80-1000A Umbrella Lights Cover One Livestream Booth?
The three DF80-1000A units were not used simply to make the outdoor booth brighter. Each light had a specific role based on the host’s movement range, the product position, and the camera angles.
The key light provided overall illumination for the host and product table; the side fill reduced shadows on one side of the host’s face, fruit baskets, and packaging; and the third light gently brightened the background and product display area while supporting close-ups of the lychees, peeling, and fruit flesh.
Whether the host addressed the main camera or turned to pick up a product, the people and lychees remained at relatively consistent brightness levels in the frame.

The DF80-1000A uses an umbrella structure measuring 80 cm in diameter and 38 cm in depth. Its large diffusion surface creates a smooth transition across the host, hands, and table while retaining appropriate highlight-and-shadow variation on the lychee peel.
The fruit does not become a flat field of red; its raised texture, fine surface details, and contours remain visible, giving the livestream image greater depth.
The integrated umbrella light design is also well suited to the pace of outdoor livestream production.
Once opened, the light immediately produces soft illumination, reducing the assembly steps required by a conventional COB lighting setup with a separate softbox, support rods, diffusion fabric, and other accessories.
When equipment must be moved between the livestream booth, product display area, and temporary shooting locations, the crew can transport and reposition it more quickly.
How Can Lychees Retain Accurate Color in a Livestream?
Ripe lychees are not a single shade of red. Depending on the variety, stage of ripeness, and angle of illumination, the peel may show bright red, crimson, deep red, and small transitions of green.
When a light has insufficient color-rendering performance, red can shift toward purple or gray, while leaves may appear too yellow or blue-green.

Larry Lee, a 27-year-old livestreamer, explained: “As lychees ripen, the peel often shows bright red, crimson, and small green transitions at the same time. If the light cannot reproduce color accurately, the red can look purple or gray, and the green leaves may also show obvious color shifts. High-color-rendering light preserves these subtle differences, helping viewers assess lychee ripeness and appearance more accurately through the screen.”
When the host peeled open a lychee, soft light falling on the semi-translucent flesh conveyed a moist, translucent appearance while reducing localized reflections and blown highlights.
The granular peel texture, natural green of the leaves, and milky white fruit flesh could also maintain a more natural color relationship within the same frame.
NiceFoto Marketing Manager Jerry Zhang said: “The NiceFoto DF80-1000A Umbrella Lights used for this livestream have a CRI of at least 96 and a TLCI of at least 96. High-color-rendering light is not intended to artificially enhance the red of the lychees. Its purpose is to reproduce, as accurately as possible, the natural color differences among the peel, flesh, leaves, and human skin tones, helping viewers understand the condition of the fruit more accurately through the livestream.”
Jerry added that the DF80-1000A offers adjustable color temperature from 2700K to 6500K, 0%-100% dimming, and a luminous flux of 10,000 lumens.
The crew could adjust brightness and color temperature as outdoor daylight changed, helping the livestream image remain visually consistent across different periods of the day.
The product also has RoHS and EMC compliance certificates, providing supporting compliance documentation for restricted-substance requirements and electromagnetic compatibility.
NiceFoto light illuminates the Lingnan lychee season. As fresh fruit travels from the branch to households through the camera, professional lighting helps consumers see it clearly and accurately, while presenting the care behind every harvest with greater precision.
